Our Beneficiaries – Funding Application
The Easter Seals Society of PEI is committed to helping children and adults with physical and mental disabilities and special needs resulting from any cause - whether diagnosed at birth or incurred through disease, accidental injury or the aging process.
Funds raised in PEI support Island programs. Although affiliated with Easter Seals Canada and the international movement, we are a grassroots community-based organization. With the financial support of our fellow Islanders we endeavor to fulfill our commitments to the disabled by funding programs that make a difference in the lives.
Some of the major beneficiaries of those campaign funds have been: Camp Gencheff (in the earlier years, contributions were made to the Camp through the Polio Foundation of Prince Edward Island); the Rehabilitation Council of PEl; the Education Coalition; Joy Riders; and, Pat & the Elephant. Other recipients of Easter Seals funds over the years have included: Canadian Association for the Disabled Skiers for specialized equipment; Charlottetown Area Recreation Inc. for a pool lift for persons with disabilities; Queen Elizabeth Hospital Physical Medicine Department for specialized equipment; PEl Recreation and Sports Association for the Disabled for a sports wheelchair; PEl Council of the Disabled; Sherwood-Parkdale Head Start; PEl Special Olympics; Tremploy; and, physically-challenged high school students who receive scholarships to study at post-secondary institutions.
The Easter Seals program in PEI is unique in that, because of our size, we do not have either an office or staff as do all other provinces. The Provincial Committee hired a campaign coordinator in 2002 for a three-month period. This arrangement proved so successful that it was extended by one month for subsequent years. The Provincial committee meets year round.
