The 2012 Easter Seals Society of PEI Campaign Goal is to raise $130,000 for Islanders with Disabilities.

Banding Together for Easter Seals Three local concert bands are banding together to present Bands for Easter Seals, a concert in support of the Easter Seals Society of PEI 2012 Campaign. The grade nine students from East Wiltshire and Queen Charlotte Intermediate Schools and the adult musicians of the Second Chances Band have come together to present this concert at the suggestion of Paul Gaudet, the grandfather of this year’s Provincial Ambassador Luke Gaudet. Paul joined the band as a “raw beginner” in the band’s inaugural year three years ago. Paul had never read music or played an instrument before and now is an enthusiastic member of the baritone section in the concert band. Second Chances Concert Band is made up of adult community musicians who have either learned to play after leaving high school or have taken up playing again after a long absence from playing. The band is co-directed by two retired band teachers from the Charlottetown area, Rowan Fitzgerald and Allie McCrady. The band plays a mix of traditional band music and lighter concert fare. The mission of the Second Chances Concert Band is to provide an opportunity for interested to people to share the joy of learning and performing music in a large ensemble. The grade nine band from Queen Charlotte is directed by Sylvia Andrew. This band is made up of the senior students from the Queen Charlotte band program The host band is the made up of the grade nine students from East Wiltshire under the direction of Frank Nabuurs. Mr. Nabuurs graciously agreed to host the concert as Luke will be a student at East Wiltshire within the next two years. Luke, whose motto is “You can do anything with a positive attitude!” is ecstatic. “I’m so excited to be the 2012 Easter Seals Ambassador,” said Luke. This concert will feature upbeat and or familiar tunes written for concert band. This concert is a fund-raising concert in support of the PEI Easter Seals 2012 campaign. Easter Seals provides programs and equipment for people with disabilities on Prince Edward Island. All funds raised stay on Prince Edward Island to assist children and adults with disabilities. The concert will be held at East Wiltshire Intermediate School on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at 7:00pm. Admission is for adults, for students and seniors, or per family. Tickets will be available from band members or at the door.
